Monday Question

How do your parents find names for their pets? Do they make a list of names and decide which one is best, or do they take a look at a pet and know the name instantly or do they stay with the name you had before you became part of their pack?

.

Ruby's Answer:  My parents take a look at a picture of their future dog and then sit down and make a list that they slowly whittle down until they come to the right name.

  1. It's a list here too apparently.

  2. I made a list for some, I used the shelter names for others and some were named for characteristics that they had. Pipo, was named after an aunt's cat, Minko was a very stinky mink colored kitten, so he became Minko (Almost StinkyMinky...), and MJF had some black freckles on his pink nose...so he became MrJackFreckles...aka MJF.
Benji and Dalton came to us with their names as did our very first kitty, Groucho.
We had a Simba, a Suki and a Toki, which was short for Tom Kitten.

  3. When mom was married, he chose Maggie's name. Maggie saw a groomer for 4 times before mom started to groom her herself. The groomer mentioned that she had another Airedale that she groomed and his name was Mitch. Mom thought that it was the perfect Airedale name and if she ever had a male Airedale, she would name him Mitch. The next Airedale was his turn to name and he chose the name Molly. I came with my name and mom left it at Duke.

  6. Ruby, names just appear from the ether sometimes, and other times it's a bit of negotiation.

  7. It was a mix with my angels. Chumley was my first adoptee and that was his shelter name. I kept it because it suited him purrfectly. Annie was my choice, trying out a few different names. Nicki, well, I knew I would adopt a Nicki and when I saw him I knew he was the one. And my baby Derry...Only that name and another came to me, and I preferred Derry! πŸ™ƒ

  10. I name them whatever seems to fit, like my orange boys, Rusty and Rudy. Some I name where they came from Barney and Millie. And others get a name like Trouble, but we call her Squeaky because of her meow.

  11. Most every kitty here came with names already. The other few waited until their personality helped pick the right name.

  12. It's been different for each dog. Some have kept the names they were given by the rescue and others have been given new names by our parents based on how they felt about the pup.

  13. That is usually a challenge here because the peeps have a hard time agreeing. Mom usually makes a list and hopes one of them hits Dad as a YES. Our naming seemed to be easier than it was with some of our Angels. Maybe Dad just gave in:)

    Woos - Misty and Timber

  14. Sometimes it's the personality of the pet. Squeaker squeaks. Simple.

Have a fabulous day and week. ♥

  15. for my first Sheltie, I had always liked the name "Dakota", when I looked up the meaning it meant "Trusted friend" so I KNEW it was perfect for him! Our current cat, "Roary" is named after the Detroit Lions mascot "Roary".......our current Sheltie Levi, I really screwed up on his name. I looked up a number of names and liked that "Levi" was "leader of the tribe"......but...I should have waited until I knew what his personality would be like. He SHOULD have been named "Rowdy".....but....we made "Rowdy" his middle name. My beloved Cody was named Cody just because he was so cute and I loved the name.
