This week we join https://llbinourbackyard.blogspot.com/ to celebrate Nature Friday.
I found a flower in a place where there should be no flower.
It was within inches of our driveway where cars roam like buffalo stomping anything delicate in it's path.
It grew amongst a thousand white stones that have comprised a walk way between our house and garden for four generations of dogs (which may not seem long to humans, but to us dogs it is a great deal of time indeed.)
It is a shade of yellow so delicate it can not be synthetically duplicated. Van Gogh came the closest and went mad doing so, a small price to pay for being able to create nature's beauty with just a skilled hand and sharp imagination.
The flower is beauty where there is no room for beauty.
Is there any room for beauty in this dark, cold, wicked world.
Flowers are the works of elves, but the last of them passed over the river this winter, leaving orcs, dwarves, and trolls who work on hard stone that crushes beauty under heavy black rocks.
And yet, in the darkest days. in a world of cold stone, beauty finds a way/
It won't last for long, it is too delicate for this world, but I will treasure the beauty while it is here/
Because it is hope during this time of despair, it is beauty in this time of ugliness, it is light in the darkness.
If a delicate flower can survive amongst darkness maybe there is hope for us all.
They say keep your head up.
They are wrong.
Keep your head down and watch for the flowers.
If anything can lead us from the darkness, it is the world's delicate little miracles. They can teach us about perseverance and survival.
We hope that there is hope, Ruby.
