Monday Question

Is my grey kitten turning into a tabby? : r/kittens

My Dad was in a pet store this weekend. A young couple brought in a tiny kitten they have found alone on a sidewalk and wanted to keep. There was a vet on site who was asked if they could give the cat a once over and the vet refused saying the new parents would have to make an appointment and pay. They agreed. The six-week old kitten had ear mites, fleas and worms. The parents were given a prescription for the worms and mites. A person who worked in the store said he would show the couple where the milk replacement were and the female owner said she didn't need it, she had frozen breast milk in the freezer. She was told it was not the right kind of milk for a cat, but the woman said it would be fine.

So, here is my question: Have your parents known anyone who were such bad pet owner that your parents feared for the pet?

  1. That is so sad. Poor kitten. And yes, many people.

  2. Way to many. Scary. Kittens need what kittens need, not what humans need.

  4. That's just gross! Sadly, most of our extended family members are bad pet parents.

  5. How sad for the kitty!!! We have a few neighbors who do make us wonder about their skills as pet owners. But at least with our extended family everyone seems to know the right way to treat animals.

  6. Gail says: I can't think of any really bad examples, although I had an aunt who over the years owned a long line of dogs of different breeds, all extremely badly behaved, and one had to doubt her parenting skills.

  9. Sadly, yes. I really try not to judge….but sometimes…
In one of my recent posts, about the fair, there is a video. In the video is an absolutely adorable and incredibly sweet golden puppy. While he was showing me his belly, for rubs, and trying to befriend my collies, his owner was speaking with someone else. She was complaining about how dominant he was, and how he resource guards. And I could tell, from interacting with him, that he was very gentle and sweet. It was almost like she was describing another dog. I’ve been worrying about that puppy ever since.
